Aditya Sarpotdar’s Mauli carries forward the vibes of the earlier film Lai Bhari with the sequence in the titles, followed by a fight the sequence actually quoting ‘Lai Bhari’ in the dialogues, and a title song starring Genelia with Riteish that is a not-so-subtle reminder of a similar song in Lai Bhari.
Mauli is a story of a small village in Maharashtra, ‘Kaapurgaav’ where Inspector Mauli Sarjerao Deshmukh (Ritesh Deshmukh) got transferred into. In the beginning, he is a peace-loving, timid kind of inspector and believes in solving cases amicably but later a certain incident changes his life completely.
Kaapurgaav is infested with criminals operating under a powerful short-tempered liquor and land mafia, Dharmraj aka Nana Lodhe (Jitendra Joshi). Mauli’s attitude gets him beaten up by their goons. However, with a twist, Mauli returns the next day to bash those goons and earns the wrath of Lodhe. From there on, it’s a villain vs hero game that comes with its share of twists, ups, and downs.
Knowing the story of Villagers, he is willing to risk his life for the villagers’ cause but also finding time to romance with space shop owner Renuka (Saiyami Kher) as well, who actually falls for macho the character of Mauli.
Now the question comes is why at one moment he fights with goons fearlessly but at next moment he becomes timid again? Why Mauli behaves like two different character?
So, here’s the twist; Mauli has a macho twin brother and can single-handedly fight many. Actually, their mother knew that Mauli is weak and won’t able to take care of himself. When she was about to die, she gave a promise to his twin brother that he will not leave him at any moment and will protect him like his wall.
Nana Lodhe on learning about the fact that Mauli helped the villagers by opening the temple and closing the liquor shops seeks revenge and plans on killing him. Villagers relying on Mauli are shocked to see as even after getting bitten by goons Mauli doesn't stand against them. Hust then Mauli's twin jumps in to save his timid brother. He fearlessly fights the goons but when Nana attacks Mauli, he jumps in to save him and gets killed instead. Crowd and Renuka feel betrayed.
Mauli later runs for his life and decides not to come again but his brother comes in his dream telling him that he has to fight. After which Mauli goes to the village again and fights against Nana Lodhe and wins the battle against evil for truth. Giving a message that We must find the courage within ourselves
TRAILER
CONCLUSION
Riteish responsibly carries the film on his shoulders, making sure the viewers are engaged. Solid punches and his emotional side wins Heart of many. As the antagonist, Jitendra Joshi is menacing, inhumane, and can go to any extent to get what he wants. Saiyami’s Renuka is mostly on the side-lines as Mauli gets the focus bringing spicy romance into the movie but her dialogue delivery could have been better. On the other hand, Siddharth Jadhav is good and his role as supporting character with a dream to bring change to villager's life though his role is wasted with low screen timePositives
- Points out a social message like Farmer's Suicide
- Mixes everything from humor and romance to action, and come
Negatives
- Loses its logical aspect
- The suspense element is revealed quite early in the plot here
