Hasee To Phasee is another one of the movies which was way ahead of its time. The movie did not do well in theatres. But since the dawn of OTT era, it has been winning a lot of plaudits from the romance loving audience of our country.
The best part about this movie is the relatability to the characters. A lot of things about the protagonists in this film shouts of imperfections.
It shows Nikhil (Siddharth Malhotra), who is always under pressure to do well. Sometimes it comes from his father, sometimes from the society and for last 7 years it had been coming from his girlfriend Karishma. At first, Nikhil's thoughts were focused on escaping the pressure. But after all these years, he has accepted it as a part of life and has been trying his best to impress everyone around him.
Karishma is a successful young woman who is conventionally pretty. She is everything that Indians parents want in their daughter in law. On the surface, she was the perfect bride for Nikhil. But deep down Nikhil's soul matched it's wavelength with the unconventional Meeta (Parineeti Chopra). Meeta, who happens to be Karishma's younger sister is an outcast from the society. But she is a free soul who doesen't care about outer beauty and appearances. She lives life on her own accord, while also being a genius engineer who graduated from IIT.
Her madness would perfectly complement Nikhil's longing for freedom.
Nikhil spends 7 years with Karishma, but just 7 days with Meeta shows him what he had been missing out in life. This movie gives us an escape from reality while being in touch with it. This is one of those movies which can be called a realistic escapism and we don't have many of those. It is an unpolished gem in its purest form.
